OMG® System & Software Architect
As a Software and System Architect, you ensure a cohesive software architecture while maintaining a holistic view of all aspects of software development.
Our training portfolio deepens your knowledge of software architecture providing you with proficiency in the UML® modeling language along with specialized skills in embedded systems.
How the training program is structured
Architecture work consists of two abilities: being able to decide and being able to write it down. The program treats both separately – the architecture itself and the language in which it is documented. All trainings are bookable as live webinars and as classroom trainings in Vienna and Frankfurt am Main.
1. Decide the architecture
The fundamentals of software architecture cover structures, quality attributes and the trade-offs an architecture actually consists of – including the question of what has to be documented and what does not.
2. Model the architecture
UML-OCUP Fundamental introduces the OMG® modeling language and leads to the OCUP 2 Foundation Level certification. UML-OCUP Intermediate builds on it and covers the diagram types used to describe the behavior and structure of larger systems.
3. Embedded systems
Where software meets hardware, the constraints change: real time, limited resources, safety. The training on embedded systems covers exactly that side of architecture work.

Training a whole team? Every one of our trainings can also be booked as an in-house training - at your premises, in Vienna or Frankfurt am Main or as a closed live webinar.
In-house trainingsWho these trainings are for
Architecture decisions are rarely made by one person alone – the groups are correspondingly mixed:
- Software and system architects
- Developers with architecture responsibility in the team
- Embedded developers who have to stay within real-time and resource limits
- Requirements engineers and technical test analysts who have to read architecture models
Frequently asked questions
Do I need UML-OCUP Fundamental before Intermediate?
Yes – the OMG® OCUP 2 scheme is staged, Intermediate builds on the Foundation Level. The fundamentals training on software architecture, by contrast, requires no certification.
Hasn't UML been replaced by other notations?
In system modeling UML® is still the widespread language, and with OCUP 2 there is a vendor-independent proof of it. For business processes BPMN 2 is the matching counterpart – that is in the business analyst's program.
What distinguishes this program from enterprise architecture?
Here it is about systems and their software, there about the architecture of the organization as a whole. Anyone responsible for both will find the level above on the enterprise architect's page – modeled with ArchiMate® instead of UML®.
Where do the trainings take place?
As a live webinar and as a classroom training in Vienna and Frankfurt am Main. The date list on this page shows the next dates per location.
